Cocktail Attire

I'm confused on this type of attire at a get together.  What does cocktail attire really mean to you?  Does it mean formal attire? Black tie/gown?  A sexy lingerie number for a playboy mansion party?

Personally I say cocktail attire means wear whatever the fuck you want!  If I want to have a cocktail in a batman outfit, then I will!  Maybe ill be in my birthday suit.  Or sometimes I even wear my pretty pretty princess outfit.
